3 Possible Signs Your Water Well Is Contaminated

A lot of people are aware of the issue of low water pressure and a well pump replacement.

Fewer people are aware of common signs of contamination in their water.

Here are three possible signs that the water well is contaminated:

1. LOOK

If the look of your Manassas water has changed, that is a sign of possible contamination. Look at the sink, faucet, and water to see if there are any visible changes. You may see scale or scum in the sink, showerheads, or faucets. This is often a sign of calcium or magnesium buildup. They create hard water that can create clogs over time.

Look at the water too. If the water looks murky or muddied, you probably shouldn’t drink it. Dirt, salt, clay, rust, and silt can cause the water to look gross and be unhealthy. The water should be clear if you are to drink it.

Another place to look is in the sink or faucet. There may be green stains if there is a lot of acid in the water. Iron, copper, and magnesium can all create natural deposits to add acid to the water and cause stains in your sink.

2. TASTE

Water should be very refreshing to drink. If it has an odd taste, your Clifton water probably has been contaminated. Four different tastes typically indicate different contaminants in your water: salty, soapy, chemical, and metallic.

A salty taste typically means there’s chloride or sodium in your water. This can occur naturally or be a sign of contamination. In contrast, a soapy taste represents high levels of alkaline in the water. This includes minerals like potassium, bicarbonate, or calcium.

A chemical taste can be a sign of chlorine and other chemicals, such as pesticides. This is a rare flavor. In comparison, one of the most common odd tastes is the metallic taste. This often means that there is a lot of acid in the water.

If your Fairfax water tastes like any of the previous descriptions, get water quality tests. That will tell you if there is an issue with your water. You may need to get well pump repair depending on what the tests finds.

3. SMELL

Finally, the last sign that your Fredericksburg water may be contaminated is the smell. If it smells like rotten eggs, detergent, or chlorine, there is a high chance that the water is contaminated. The smells may be subtle at first, but they should become more and more obvious, especially when you put a cup up to your face.

Conclusion

If you get your water from a well, it needs to be safe for drinking. Look at the appearance, taste, and smell of the water to see if there are any possible contaminants. If any of these signs of contamination show up, you should hire a well inspector right away.
